Red Willow Vineyards

Red Willow Vineyard 2013 Syrah

As it happens, before there can be prestigious wines, there need to be superb grapes.

One of our favorite vineyards, the fabled Red Willow, sits far west in the Yakima AVA and produces some of the best wines in the state. Family owned and operated, the vineyard has been nurtured and cared for since 1971; growing up with the budding wineries of the ’70s with the Associated Vintners (later called Columbia Winery) and provided fruit for many others – like William Church! – to create a distinction of quality and longevity. It’s coaxed from its land a new history of old world varietals.

Wine of the Week!

Great Northwest Wine names Tres Bien Vin du Semaine!

In a lovely review our 2013 Tres Bien has been brought out as Wine of the Week at Great Northwest Wine! “[Tres Bien] opens with aromas of luscious chocolate syrup, a hint of toasted oak and ample dark fruit, particularly blackberry and black currant. On the palate, it reveals flavors of olive, black licorice, plum and caramel, with…” Read more!

New Reviews and Scores!

Our wines are making headlines again!

Wine Spectator has released some new scores and once again William Church has done very well – Noah’s Viognier Scored Big!

2014 Viognier 91 points  “Sleek & polished, with pretty pear, peach, floral, and spice flavors that play against tangy acidity as the finish lingers beautifully.”

2012 2 Spires 91 points  “Rich and polished, layered with black cherry, dark plum, black tea and spice…”

2012 Syrah – 90 points  SOLD OUT   “Supple, expressive and generous with its green olive-accented blackberry and blueberry flavors, finishing with plush texture and persistence.”

2012 Bishop’s Blend – 90 points SOLD OUT  “Fresh and vital, with distinctive mint and sage nuances around a fleshy core of cherry.”

The trend of wines selling out before they are applauded is a truer statement of how much people love these wines! With growing interest and demand, have you checked out the new vintages at William Church? They’re delicious and well on their way to following these fabulous accolades!

Interest in Viognier growing across Pacific Northwest

While our followers and members have said our Viognier is a local favorite for years, recently there has been a growing interest in this special grape here in the PNW. William Church at the US Open

Two excellent William Church wines were poured this year at the 2015 US Open in Chambers Bay! Of the hundreds of wines submitted to Master Sommelier Chris Tanghe and his team composed of sommeliers, owners and directors, both the 2012 Malbec and 2013 Viognier were chosen to represent Washington Wines.

The team blind tasted the submissions by style and AVA to provide an over-all expose of Washington wines for spectators coming from around the country; the selected wines are considered the best examples of their style and region.

We already knew that here at William Church, after all our Malbec and Viognier each have plenty of awards and accolades on their own while holding a special place in our hearts. Both wines source from respected and long standing vineyards Gamache and Connor Lee.
